DietmarCreating research synergies and use of modern communication media

A new year a new beginning: Professor Dietmar Reinert, Director of the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance (IFA), has started his chairmanship of the PEROSH group. He will be supported by the new vice-chairman Professor Paulien Bongers, The Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), and the new PEROSH European affairs coordinator Dr Daniela Treutlein.

Reinert, a doctor of physics, has known the PEROSH network since its foundation. Over the last two years, he already supported the outgoing chairman, Didier Baptiste from the French INRS, in the management of the network. Reinert has set himself challenging goals for his chairmanship: “If we really intend to avoid duplication of efforts in Europe, we have to link our researchers, particularly our younger colleagues, much more closely.” This requires an exchange of experts between institutes, which he plans to promote in the coming years. He also considers further strengthening the cooperation with the European Commission’s bodies to be an important task for PEROSH. As he says, “we will only bring occupational safety and health on the EU’s research agenda if we join force and if we articulate our concerns in the right way”. Therefore, Reinert intends to make better use of social media in order to disseminate the group’s research results and to ensure that companies benefit from innovative OSH solutions.

These changes aside the traditional PEROSH cooperation will, of course, continue. At present, the group is working on twelve joint research projects.
