The PROTECT COVID-19 National Core Study is an HSE led, UK-wide, research programme improving understanding of how SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted from person to person, and how this varies in different settings and environments.

Public transport has been widely perceived as a high-risk sector for transmission of the COVID-19 virus, due to large numbers of people travelling in close proximity in enclosed spaces, often with limited ventilation.

This public transport sector evidence report summarises the evidence currently available on COVID-19 infection and mortality among employees in the public transport sector, as well as risk factors for infection and infection control measures in this sector.
