On December 13, 2024, PEROSH hosted an insightful webinar on Artificial Intelligence (AI) that brought together experts from various fields to discuss the latest advancements and applications of AI in workplace safety and health. The event was a tremendous success, offering valuable perspectives and sparking engaging discussions among participants.

The webinar kicked off with an introduction by Jan Michiel Meeuwsen, Director of International Affairs at PEROSH. Jan Michiel set the stage by highlighting the importance of AI in transforming workplace safety and the role of PEROSH in fostering innovation and collaboration in this domain.
The first speaker, Andrzej Grabowski from CIOP-PIB, Poland, presented on “AI-Powered Robot at Construction Sites.” Andrzej shared his extensive research on the applications of Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and AI in various areas, including training, cognitive functions, and upper limb rehabilitation support. His work on developing VR techniques and vision-based safety systems utilizing artificial neural networks was particularly fascinating.
Next, Colin Chambers from HSE, United Kingdom, took the stage with his presentation titled “Mapping AI Use Cases: Insights for HSE Regulated Industries.” Colin, a Chartered Engineer with 25 years of experience, provided deep insights into the regulation of AI applications within high-hazard industries. His expertise in risk assessment, control systems, and functional safety was evident as he discussed the development of regulatory frameworks for the safe and effective use of AI.
Following Colin, Kevin Seeser-Reich from IFA, Germany, introduced the “Competence Centre for AI and Big Data at IFA.” Kevin’s presentation focused on using AI to improve workplace safety and health, particularly in preventing slips, trips, and falls. His background in deep learning and real-time speech processing added a unique dimension to the discussion.
The final speaker, Michaël Sarrey from INRS, France, discussed “The Impact of AI in Machine Control Systems.” Michaël’s extensive experience in industrial process design and his current research on the safety of machines incorporating complex algorithms provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of integrating AI into machine control systems.
The webinar concluded with a lively Q&A session, where participants had the opportunity to engage with the speakers and delve deeper into the topics discussed. The event was a testament to the collaborative spirit of the PEROSH community and the shared commitment to advancing workplace safety through innovative technologies.
