7th ETUI Future of Work conference, Governing digitalisation and AI for fair labour markets: power concentration, value distribution and job quality
Save the date and call for papers, 16-17 February 2027, Brussels
The 7th Future of Work conference will explore the challenges arising from digitalisation, automation and AI, and at the same time consider the impacts these are having on the social dimension of European labour markets and the equitable distribution of value.
Amid a vivid and highly polarising public debate oscillating between techno-enthusiasm and quasi-apocalyptic scenarios, lawmakers have shown a growing commitment to embedding the workplace use of algorithmic management and AI systems within regulatory regimes. However, the emerging legislative framework is constrained by existing power asymmetries and an inherent tension between competing policy paradigms. This reflects the legacy of previous progressive policymaking and the current political setting’s deregulatory drive.
This conference seeks to highlight some of the most critical issues that remain unaddressed by current governance processes and to stimulate scholarly debate on constructive ways forward.
