From Sheffield to Stockholm, We’re Still Going Strong!

Ever heard of PEROSH? No, it’s not a new type of ergonomic chair (though we wouldn’t say no to that!). It’s the Partnership for European Research in Occupational Safety and Health, and for 20 years, they’ve been the unsung heroes of safer, healthier workplaces across Europe. 🎉
But how did it all begin? Picture this: a bunch of brilliant minds from top OSH research institutes across Europe, meeting in the late ’80s, not in some fancy conference hall, but in Sheffield. They called themselves the “Sheffield Group,” and their goal was simple: to share knowledge and work together because, let’s face it, safety shouldn’t be a competition! They even brought their partners along, turning work trips into mini-adventures! Talk about work-life balance, right? 😉
Fast forward to 2003, and PEROSH is born! It’s like the Sheffield Group leveled up, becoming more formal and focused. They set their sights on tackling EU-wide OSH challenges, from preventing those pesky musculoskeletal disorders to understanding the wild world of nanotechnology.
Remember that time everyone was talking about “well-being at work”? PEROSH was right there, leading the charge with conferences and research. They even created a “Well-being Tree” to help everyone understand the roots of a happy and healthy work life. Who wouldn’t want to climb that tree? 🌳
But PEROSH doesn’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk. They’ve been instrumental in shaping EU strategies, publishing position papers on everything from digitalization to the impact of COVID-19. They’re like the OSH whisperers, making sure worker safety is at the heart of European policy. 🤫
What’s next for PEROSH? They’re embracing the future, tackling the challenges of the digital and green transitions. Think robots, AI, and sustainable workplaces! They’re also focusing on supporting young researchers, because who better to shape the future of OSH than the next generation?
