We are pleased to share the highlights from the Building the Digital Future in Occupational Safety and Health conference, which took place on April 3-4, 2025, at the Kazimierz Górski PGE National Stadium in Warsaw, Poland. This prestigious event, organized under the Polish Presidency of the EU Council, brought together leading experts to discuss the ethical, social, legal, and health implications of digital transformation in the workplace.

Key Highlights:

PEROSH Speakers: The conference featured prominent speakers from the Partnership for European Research in Occupational Safety and Health (PEROSH) network, who shared their insights and research on the impact of digitalization on occupational safety and health:

  • Dr. Benjamin Paty from the National Research and Safety Institute for the Prevention of Occupational Accidents and Diseases (INRS), France, discussed the psychosocial and organizational perspectives of digital technologies in nursing homes.
  • Dr. Tuomo Alasoini from the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH), Finland, explored the implications of AI-based transformation on employee well-being.
  • Prof. Thomas Alexander from the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), Germany, addressed the safe and healthy use of AI at work.
  • Dr. Coen van Gulijk from the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), The Netherlands, presented on AI, work, and safety.
  • Dr. Andrzej Grabowski from the Central Institute for Labour Protection – National Research Institute, Poland, discussed immersive training applications to improve occupational safety and health.

PEROSH Moderators: moderators from PEROSH played crucial roles in guiding the discussions and ensuring the sessions were insightful and productive:

  • Ms. Mercedes Tejedor Aibar, from the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work (INSST), moderated the session on “The Potential of the Silver Economy,” discussing the importance of new technologies in building the silver economy 
  • Ms. Diana Gagliardi, from the Italian Workers’ Compensation Authority (INAIL), moderated the session on “Building the Digital Future of OSH – From Today’s Learnings to Tomorrow’s Solutions,” summarizing the conference’s key takeaways and future directions 
  • Mr. Steffen Bohni Nielsen, from the National Research Centre for the Working Environment (NFA), and chair of PEROSH, moderated the session on “The Pros and Cons of Digital Transformation,” focusing on the opportunities and challenges presented by digitalization in the workplace.
  • Prof. Thomas Alexander, from the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA), moderated the session on “The Impact of Digital Transformation on the Labour Market,” discussing the links between digitalization and occupational safety and health
  • Mr. Jan Michiel Meeuwsen, PEROSH Director International Affairs, moderated the session on “The Digital Future of Occupational Safety and Health from the Scientific Research Perspective.” This session delved into how digitalization is transforming occupational safety and health across Europe.
