On April 23, 2025, we hosted an engaging webinar titled “Making Better Use of EU-OSHA and PEROSH Data for National Research”. This event brought together experts and researchers from across Europe to discuss how to better utilize occupational safety and health (OSH) data to enhance national research efforts.
Event Highlights
Welcome and Introduction The webinar began with a warm welcome from our moderators, Vibe Westh (EU-OSHA) and Jan Michiel Meeuwsen (PEROSH). They introduced the goals of the seminar and emphasized the importance of collaboration in using EU-OSHA and PEROSH data.
Key Presentations We had a series of engaging presentations from distinguished speakers:
- Xabier Irastorza (EU-OSHA) discussed the European Survey of Enterprises on New and Emerging Risks (ESENER), highlighting key findings and trends in OSH management across Europe.
- Maurizio Curtarelli (EU-OSHA) presented on the OSH Pulse 2022 survey, focusing on mental health, psychosocial risks, and the impact of digital technologies and the COVID-19 pandemic on workers.
- Laura Menze (BAuA) shared insights from the BAuA Working Time Survey, emphasizing the importance of longitudinal data for research.
- Timo Heepenstrick (IFA) introduced the GENESIS-UV project, which measures personal UV-exposure among workers.
- Marine Cavet (EU-OSHA) discussed the Workers’ Exposure Survey on Cancer Risk Factors in Europe, detailing the methodology and key findings.
- Ioannis Anyfantis (EU-OSHA) showcased the OSH Barometer, a tool for visualizing OSH data and informing policy.
- Frédéric Clerc and Jean-François Sauvé (INRS) presented on the integration of multiple databases for comprehensive exposure assessment.
- Karin Sørig Hougaard (NFA) discussed the Danish DOC*X Cohort, a nationwide cohort with extensive job and health data.
Interactive Discussions The webinar also featured interactive Q&A sessions and open discussions, where participants raised important questions about data methodology, interpretation, and the challenges of measuring certain exposures. The discussions highlighted the need for open access to data and the importance of sharing methodologies and findings.
Future Collaboration Participants expressed a strong interest in future collaboration, emphasizing the potential for creating a platform for sharing databases and surveys. The idea of including Eurofound in future discussions was also proposed to ensure comprehensive indicators and matrices for policy development.
Closing Remarks The event concluded with reflections from both EU-OSHA and PEROSH representatives, summarizing the discussions and outlining potential next steps. Jan Michiel Meeuwsen thanked all participants for their contributions and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and data sharing.
