As of 1 January 2026, the Swedish Agency for Work Environment Expertise (Mynak) has been formally merged into the Swedish Work Environment Authority, creating a single, integrated national body for occupational safety and health (OSH).

The merger follows a decision by the Swedish government to streamline the national OSH landscape and improve the efficiency of public administration. By bringing together Mynak’s role as a national knowledge centre with the regulatory and inspection responsibilities of the Swedish Work Environment Authority, the new structure aims to strengthen the link between research, policy and practice.

Under the new arrangement, the Authority now assumes full responsibility for compiling, analysing and disseminating work environment knowledge, alongside its existing mandate for regulation and enforcement. This consolidation is expected to enhance coherence in OSH policy development and implementation, while reducing duplication of efforts across institutions.

All employees of Mynak have been offered continued employment within the Authority, ensuring continuity of expertise and capacity. The integrated organisation also reflects a broader ambition to create a stronger and more coordinated national actor in the field of occupational safety and health.

For PEROSH, this development marks an important step in strengthening collaboration with Sweden, as the newly structured Authority brings together research, analysis and regulatory functions within a single organisation, offering enhanced opportunities for joint European initiatives.
