Let’s get started on social media! – NRCWE’s Impressions and inspiration from the PEROSH seminar
“Today social media is a key factor for spreading scientific knowledge, engaging the public and getting ‘customers’ on our website. So let’s get out there! That was our main impression from the PEROSH seminar “New Media, new Technologies and OSH knowledge dissemination” in Paris 18 September 2013.
Noiseapp at Super Bowl, space geeks on Twitter, e-learning and blogs. The seminar presented an interesting insight and inspiration on different approaches on new technology and social media. And we have to join in if we want to share our scientific knowledge with the media and the public and get feedback e.g. in terms of visitors on our website or input to our research.
For research institutes it is not only a matter of technology and new platforms but rather a change of culture and an innovative communication strategy. And the management has to take the necessary decisions to enable the strategy, accept bumps on the way and the fact that you won’t always be in control.
The seminar showed the need and benefits of exchange of experience between PEROSH members. The Danish National Research Center for the Working Environment (NRCWE) already has a number of experiences with the use of new media and new technologies for disseminating scientific knowledge. The seminar presentations and discussions have provided valuable ideas and inspiration for the development of NRCWE’s strategy for the use of the new technologies”.
