This report is the Austrian’s contribution to the PEROSH compilation and aims to provide a picture of the Austria response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report highlights key lessons from the COVID‑19 pandemic for Austria’s workplaces. It stresses the need for transparent, evidence‑based political consulting, clearer communication, and stronger inclusion of occupational safety experts. The pandemic exposed gender inequalities, challenges of remote work, and the gap between symbolic appreciation and real improvements for essential workers. High workloads—especially in healthcare—showed the urgency of better staffing and resilience‑building measures. Overall, the report offers recommendations to strengthen preparedness, equality, communication, and employee well‑being in future crises.
