The Central Institute for Labour Protection – National Research Institute (CIOP-PIB) has successfully completed the project“Psychosocial working conditions and depressive disorders among working Poles” (2020–2022). The project resulted in a comprehensive, evidence-based programme supporting employers and employees in preventing and addressing mental health problems at work.

The programme combines preventive and rehabilitative measures and is primarily addressed to employers, while also offering practical guidance for employees. It highlights that improving psychosocial working conditions is not only a matter of employee wellbeing, but also a clear business case – better mental health is associated with higher productivity, engagement, and reduced absenteeism.

The programme is structured around three levels of action: (1) identification of mental health risks within routine occupational risk assessment and occupational health services, (2) organisational-level prevention and reduction of psychosocial risks, and (3) employee-level interventions, including both universal prevention (e.g. mindfulness, coaching, physical activity) and targeted support for individuals experiencing mental health problems (e.g. cognitive-behavioural approaches, return-to-work programmes).

The programme is widely disseminated via CIOP-PIB events (seminars, training, lectures, conferences) and implemented by interested companies.

Additional outreach included training activities, social media campaigns, and media engagement around World Depression Day.
